Taking samples now is going surprisingly easy and I love it! The only thing i'm struggling with is the updown every morning and afternoon. I spoke to E-MX about this... or she asked how it was for me to updown. I lose approx. 4 hours with updowning everyday so by the time i'm home i have time to eat, make food and maybe do something else for 35-40 minutes before i have to go to sleep again and the shocking thing is that the summer timetable hasn't even begun and it seems like
We discussed about getting a free day every week so that i could catch up on sleep. I like the idea; i kind of need it too because of the toll it takes to wake up at 4am. And do you guys know how cold it is early in the morning? I literally need to stick onto the heaters when i'm on the train only to discover that i wear too much clothes when i travel home. ^^
Something interesting happened today and i admit that this thought has struck me before.... you see we work with all kind of people and ages( babies, kiddos, youths, semi-adult, adults and elder people). Now the thing i've been jokingly thinking about is What if i have to take sample(s) from someone i find attractive? Yep, that happened today! Hang on I'll tell you very soon what happened but first there was this woman... women... plural who came today and they hadn't mastered the language yet so they said a few words in English and once i heard that the automatic switch turned, "Hello, is there anything i can help you with?" and we had a conversation. There was one woman who said "sweetie" and "thank you darling, thank you so much" and i found it really amusing and sweet! Working at the laboratory-section is stimulating, every patient is different and every patient has a challenge, if it's not the technique it is the administration/IT-system.
In conclusion i love everything i do - apart from adjusting the chair.... yup there is this chair the patients sit on and it is an old one. Here is the short story about this guy/man. He was very muscular and had very distinct bone structure. As soon as i saw him a voice said "you are a piece of eye-candy". He was welcomed in and i got his ID-card and i asked my supervisor if i was the one taking the patient & sample or if she wanted to do it. I was the one who got to do it (omg). While my supervisor was telling him i was new at the job etc. I was adjusting the chair so it would be in a good angle for me to work from. Laughingly i said that taking the sample is a piece of cake than adjusting this chair and he cracked up. Perfect! :P
I searched for a good vein and they were all perfect. Prepared the material and the needle breached the skin. I didn't get the "blood-verification" but the needle was perfectly inside the vein and i loaded the vacuum test-tube... now this is always a little skittish, how the blood will flow. In his case it was a great flow and he said "i told you so" and i replied "you are very kind, aren't ya" (intern joke) It was a "Hallelujah"-moment and while i was taking care of him with a band-aid then sent him away my supervisor began talking about attractive people and how it felt for me.
"Lol" i thought. I admitted he was eye-candy and i know that if i happen to get an "attractive" patient I can simply ask someone else to take over... i doubt that would happen but if it did it's good to know your limitations. Professionalism is important to me so unless the patient is my dream boy it is highly unlikely I'll be swooned ;)
It was an interesting day since there were a lot of processes when encountering and handling these patients and that is what makes this job awesome. Learning by doing.
Looks like i'm right on time! Good night folks!
